Medical Transportation Management grows with a focus on service

AndreaIn 1995, Lynn and Peg Griswold knew an opportunity when they saw it. Having working in social services and healthcare, they became aware that many patients didn’t have access to reliable transportation to make it to doctor visits, and thus, the idea for Medical Transportation Management was born. Today the company is helmed by Lynn’s daughter Alaina Macia and is one of the fastest growing companies in Missouri, and the nation.

“Our goal is to remove the barriers to healthcare through transportation,” Macia explains. “My father and step mother saw a lack of services and knew there was a need. This was a case of being in the right place at the right time.”

The Griswold’s based their company in Lake St. Louis, Missouri, where they still live. The state’s central location in the country proved to be an asset as well as the local workforce.

“We stay because the location and the workforce are so good,” Macia said. “It’s easy to connect here and we have a great pool of employees. There are better states to do business in, but there are also worse states. We choose to stay because Missouri has been good to MTM.”

MTM provides non-emergency transportation for those in need to doctor appointments that can range from well-baby visits, chemo treatments, and preventative care. The company is based in Lake St. Louis with locations throughout the country including New York, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Washington DC, Mississippi and Virginia. The company has a fleet of vehicles, typically sedans and wheelchair accessible vans.

Currently MTM’s main clients consist of insurance companies, state agencies and hospitals. Clients are referred through social service agencies and their insurance companies. In 2015, MTM is planning to launch a private pay option so that services can be expanded to more clients.

“It’s our primary goal to focus on health and wellness,” Macia said. “With reliable transportation we can do things like keep seniors out of nursing homes and get clients to preventable care to keep them healthy.”

With nearly 1100 employees, MTM strives to be a great place to work each and every day.

“Our company is privately held and owned/operated by family. We focus on health and well-being and that extends to our employees,” Macia said. “We want to treat our employees with a family touch because we are a family owned business. We encourage growth within the company and try to promote from within.”

Among many other honors the company has recently received, Macia is proud of being named a 2014 Missouri Chamber Fast Track Award winner.

“This award means a lot to the company because it’s recognition that we are growing and successful,” Macia explained. “People want to come and work for us and we are able to provide services to a growing number of clients. People run our company, and I’m very proud of us.”
